🐝 National Spelling Bee

Every year, students from all walks of life have the opportunity to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, one of the nation’s oldest and most iconic competitions. Participants progress from classroom to cafeteria, from auditorium to civic center, delighting friends, family, sponsors, and fans — just as millions of students have done before them.

The Cheatham PTA is proud to sponsor the annual school spelling bee in partnership with Scripps. The 2025 Cheatham Elementary Spelling Bee will be held on December 5th. The winner of the Cheatham Elementary Spelling Bee (Grades 5–6) will advance to the Allen ISD Spelling Bee.

📝 Competition

Each class will hold a Classroom Competition, conducted as a traditional oral spelldown within the homeroom. Your child’s teacher will administer the 2026 Classroom Competition List by pronouncing words for students to spell aloud.

If necessary, classroom spelling bees will take place prior to the grade-level competitions.

After the School Competition, the school champion will receive the Words of the Champions study guide — a comprehensive list that will help them prepare for the Regional Qualifier or Regional Competition.

📚 Preparing for the Bee

We highly encourage students to study the word lists provided by Scripps to prepare for the competition. This is a wonderful opportunity for each child to build confidence, improve spelling skills, and have fun!

A study list will be provided by your homeroom teacher, librarian, or spelling bee coordinator.
If necessary, classroom spelling bees will be held prior to the grade-level competitions.
